Emirates Foundation was established in April 2005 under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and the meticulous direction of his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Built around the vision of establishing a leading institution in the field of social welfare and carrying forward the philanthropic legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed, founding father of the UAE, Emirates Foundation set out to empower individuals and institutions to articulate their social responsibility and give back to the community. Since 2005, Emirates Foundation has continued to achieve these aims by encouraging public and private sector partnerships and through initiating successful community-oriented projects.
Our core priorities have been to support the Emirati youth, to care for people with special needs, to develop knowledge, nurture talented and creative UAE nationals, and to enable students that wish to pursue further education.
The new national initiative
We are now moving towards a new future for Emirates Foundation, with a new direction and a new corporate identity. Our aim is to take philanthropic activities to greater levels and make a positive contribution to the UAE society.
Based on our conviction that the youth plays a vital role in community development and is the future of the country, we have made a conscious decision to position the youth as our primary focus and we are now launching an integrated national initiative that invests in the UAE youth.
The new model will focus on three main areas:
Ensuring that the initiatives funded initially by the Foundation mature into self-sustaining entities that can survive long after the Foundation exits.
Building long-term partnership with the private sector, related authorities, institutions and stakeholders.
Ensuring long-term sustainable developmental outcomes that are tangible and measurable.
Our core priorities have been to support the Emirati youth, to care for people with special needs, to develop knowledge...
We have also supported and financed social non-profit institutions and initiatives to protect and maintain the unique Emirati environment and have launched public awareness campaigns on various issues of concern to the community.
We aim to move away from providing short term individual’s grants and now seek to focus on social investment through developing long-term sustainable programmes.
The Foundation’s initiatives will address the opportunities and challenges facing young people in the UAE and help them to reach their potential. It will also work with business to ensure that the private sector is able to deliver a social return through its social investment initiatives.
We ask them to continue their generous contribution and remain committed towards their social responsibility. I am confident that together we can achieve our noble cause and make an impactful difference.
The changes to Emirates Foundation are not limited to the name and logo but mark a radical shift in reiterating our focus on social investment in young people.
Together we reaffirm our commitment
to make a difference.
